September is National Senior Center Month.

Center’s across the Upper Cumberland are celebrating and seeing participation reach normal levels after COVID. Clay County Director Sandra Wix said its membership has increased slightly with several new senior residents moving in.

‘We have been doing great,” Wix said. “We have continued to grow. We did have some participants that did not come back from COVID, but we have added many new participants especially in the last few months.”

Fairview Senior Center in Jackson County also seeing participation pick up. Assistant Director Anita Caruthers said the center is set to start a lunch program soon now that members are back.

“We have between 12 and 15 on some days when we have different programs and stuff going,” Caruthers said. “That just gives me an incentive to look for more programs that we can do here.”

Wix said the Clay Center celebrated the month through several programs such as exercise classes and health education. Caruthers said the Jackson members played Bingo and held a social luncheon.
