Algood To Consider Drainage With REI Expansion

Algood City Engineers will take a look at stormwater plans for a proposed industrial expansion of the REI Facility.

REI wants to build 16,298 square feet of office space and more than 4,000 square feet of warehouse space at 455 Security Drive. Building Inspector Bob Lane told the Planning Commission Thursday night the plan looks good, but there are long-term drainage concerns.

“This is the headwater of where all this water goes toward 111, all the many units,” Lane said. “We’ve had problems a long time ago. The outlet that they had in their detention pond was so large, it was allowing too much to go through and not detaining it for a period of time. I had them throttle it down, and I don’t remember at that time if they designed for an additional building or not. That’s something we probably need to take a look at.”

Lane said that could take place before the commission votes on the project in June.

The five-acre lot would include 131 parking spaces, above the minimum requirement. Planning Director Tommy Lee said the plan meets all the requirements of the I-1 Light Industrial Zone.

The Planning Commission approved the rezoning of land at 2901 Highway 111 for a multi-purpose pet facility. That now goes to City Council for final approval.
