Putnam, Overton Sheriffs Urging Motorists To Stay Home

Putnam and Overton County Sheriff’s Offices ask residents to stay off the roads during Thursday’s winter weather advisory.

Putnam Sheriff Eddie Farris said he expects the conditions to last over the next 24 hours with temperatures dropping.

“We’ve worked approximately almost 20 wrecks either working or assisting with the Tennessee Highway Patrol since about 8:45 this morning,” Farris said. “So, not good. Everybody knows that the snow is here.”

The scene in Overton County similar to what Putnam faces. Sheriff John Garrett said most back roads are covered with snow. Highway 111 entering Livingston is also slick.

“Must of our crashes have been very very minor,” Garrett said. “Vehicles sliding off ditches so fourth and so on. But we would love to urge everyone if you don’t have to be out, don’t be out. The roadways are getting terrible.”

For those that do need to drive, Garrett said stock your vehicle with extra clothing, food, water and any other essentials to be prepared.
