Fairgrounds Sale A Plus For Both County And The City Itself

The city of Cookeville is pleased with the county’s decision to authorize the sale of the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

City Manager James Mills said that this presents an opportunity for commercial development for the city.

“Well I mean anytime you have an opportunity to redevelop it’s a positive for the community,” Mills said. “And the other positive is that this will provide the funds for the county to be able to relocate the fairgrounds.”

The new fairgrounds property will be located off of Tennessee Avenue.

Mills said the city will work to ensure that any properties developed will be up the appropriate standards and codes of the city. He said that depending on the nature and the scale of the developments, there is a possibility the city will have to do some infrastructure improvements.

“Once we get a set of plans for what is going to happen, then we will deal with that accordingly,” Mills said.

Mills said they planning on looking at all the roads near the site for the potential traffic impact, including Veterans Drive and Walnut Avenue.
