A Cookeville man was airlifted to Vanderbilt after a Thursday evening crash on Highway 135. According to the THP, John D. Overstreet was also cited for improper passing in the incident. The Putnam County Budget Committee will meet again Monday. Last week, Putnam County Executive Randy Porter told the committee the per-penny tax revenues were up a bit. Algood city leaders passed the first reading of their budget ordinance Friday. The meeting was rescheduled when there wasn’t enough members present for a quorum Monday. City Administrator Keith Morrison said the budget was approved on the first reading with last year’s tax rate. Sparta Electric customers may experience power outages over the next few weeks. The electric department has scheduled temporary power outages from June 12th through July 30th. Officials say the outages are necessary to perform sub-station repairs and pole replacements. Most of the outages will occur on weekends or late at night to minimize customer interruptions.
