White Co. Youth Baseball/Softball League Searching For Ideas For Playing Locations

White County’s Youth Baseball and Softball League is searching for a place to play their season.

President Don Pearcy said they will be unable to play at the usual fields behind the YMCA due to the construction of the city’s new splash pad. He said while they are excited for the splash pad to bring a new opportunity to the county, it leaves them without a location to play.

“Someway somehow the kids are going to play baseball and softball,” Pearcy said. “We’ll get it done someway. We’re not going to say no to the kids. We’ll just have to start earlier, play later.”

Pearcy said two years ago the league served about 380 players, and last season that had grown to about 555. He said they want to continue that expansion even further by adding teams for older players and even adult teams.

Pearcy said they are open to ideas from the community about finding a solution. He said at the end of the day, they want to make sure their league will have a place to play for the coming season.

“The county’s got some land and through conversation, some of the land could potentially be sued for additional ball fields,” Pearcy said. “We’ve got four out there now that serve the youth but hit past year we’ve got seven that served the youth. So not having those additional three is going to put us in a bind.”

Pearcy said the mayor has been open to using some other areas for the smaller leagues, which they will continue to explore. He said ideally it would be nice to have all teams play in the same area.
