Sleep In Heavenly Peace Works To Ensure All Kids Have A Bed To Sleep In

A national organization has opened a Putnam County location.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace is a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. Trevor Larsen is Co-President of the Putnam County location. He and his wife Madie moved to Cookeville during the pandemic and looked to put their woodworking shop to good use, with Sleep In Heavenly Peace seeming like a perfect fit.

“You know you do a delivery and in some ways, it breaks your heart and I think some of us live in a bubble sometimes and don’t get to see the reality, but you always leave where your heart is completely full,” Larsen said. “You see these smiles and these tears.”

Madie Larsen said they have delivered 22 beds to date. She said Monday alone they delivered six beds, with four more set for the rest of the week.

Larsen said she and her family saw a need and decided to fill it. She said they started with 10 zip codes in just the Cookeville area, but have also expanded delivery services to Livingston, Sparta, Baxter, and Monterey.

“About a third of the deliveries we’ve made so far have been to grandparents that are raising the grandkids and for whatever reason, the parents aren’t in the picture anymore and so they take it over,” Larsen said. “And several of them, they have a house and they have a room but they don’t have any infrastructure.
