Roads across the Upper Cumberland reported snow covered and slick Monday morning.
Most areas received three to four inches of snow from Sunday evening through early Monday morning. After a break, radar shows snowfall filling back in across the region.
Emergency management officials urged residents to stay off the road. Fentress County officials reported the holiday has kept people at home so far. The Highway Patrol reports several accidents on Interstate 40 during the overnight hours.
In Putnam County, Interstate 40 is passable. Major arteries like Jefferson Avenue and Willow Avenue have a thin layer of snow and ice. Most other roads are snow covered.
Dekalb County officials said roads are very bad. Smith County officials reported seven accidents in the last several hours.
Van Buren County officials report road conditions are deteriorating as heavier snow begins falling again. Even main roads are becoming slick there.
Several additional inches of snow are possible during the daytime hours. Temperatures will not move much the rest of the day, before falling to around 10 overnight. Sunshine will help melt snow Tuesday, but temperatures will not get above 20.
