DeKalb Commission To Consider Redistricting Proposal Affecting Four Districts

DeKalb County residents should expect slight changes to districts based on the county redistricting committee’s recommendation to the commission.

Mayor Tim Stribling said a small increase in total population caused changes in four districts, moving 264 people.

“We moved 158 people from District Three to District Two, and we moved 106 residents to District Five to District Six,” Stribling said. “So just a very minor shift.”

Stribling said the county commission will consider the proposed changes at its September 27th meeting. Stribling said residents that are moved will vote at a different precinct.

“Their services are still going to be the same,” Stribling said. “They’ll just be shifted to voting to another precinct. EMS, fire, sheriff’s office, solid waste, nothing is going to change.”

Stribling said the State Comptroller’s Office assisted the redistricting committee with the process. Stribling said overall, the small moves went smoothly.

“Once they got the numbers, they made us suggestions, and these were just very small moves. It really was a simple matter, and it really kind of puts one district back to where it was after the 2010 census.”

Stribling said residents can attend the public commissioner meeting to see a full map of the changes.
