Cumberland, Stone Memorial Ranked Tops In UC

Cumberland County and Stone Memorial High Schools are the highest-ranked Upper Cumberland high schools in the new U.S. News and World Report rankings of best public high schools.

Cumberland County ranked 61st among Tennessee schools in the report, scoring a 75.8 on the magazine’s scorecard. The school graduated 91 percent of its students and received a 9.4 ranking on college readiness.

Some 25,000 schools nationwide were ranked on numerous measures including college readiness, college curriculum, state assessments, underserved student performance and graduation rates.

Stone Memorial ranked 66th with an overall score of 73.2. Cookeville High School finished 83rd, while Upperman ranked 100th. A total of 462 high schools statewide made the rankings.

The magazine worked with RTI, a nonprofit global social science research firm.

Central Magnet High School in Murfreesboro ranked as the state’s top high school, according to U.S. News.
