CRMC Suspending Elective Procedures Again

Cookeville Regional will once again suspend elective procedures beginning Monday.

CEO Paul Korth said the suspension will continue until the number of COVID cases decreases significantly.

“We are seeing a record high for the medical center in terms of patients being in isolation from COVID-19,” Korth said. “We expect the trend to continue, and we’ll be seeing even higher numbers in the coming weeks. We are also starting to see cases of the flu in our urgent care clinic so we expect flu hospitalizations to follow.”

Cookeville Regional reported 84 positive COVID cases being treated at the medical center Wednesday. Another seven patients are in isolation awaiting tests.

CRMC suspended elective procedures a month ago, but it lasted just days amidst a blip downward in COVID cases. At that time, Korth said elective procedures would be an almost daily decision.

“We’re suspending our elective surgeries and procedures now so that we can continue providing care for the large volume of COVID patients and others that need immediate hospitalization,” Korth said.

Cookeville Regional has dispersed all its COVID vaccine to front line workers.
