Clay Emergency Management To Have Warming Shelter Prepared In Celina

Clay County Emergency Management will have a warming shelter open for the community with the cold weather this weekend.

Director Kyle Haney said the shelter will be at the Clay County Volunteer Rescue Squad building located at 74 River Road in Celina.

“Some agencies will like to wait and see the events to actually happen,” Haney said. “But for me, I found it easier to go ahead and prepare and have everything ready to go so that way when the need arises, we have everything needed prepared and we’re good to go.”

Haney said there will be a few cots set up, warm coffee, and hot soup available. He said the facility is climate-controlled and will be warmed and ready for anyone who might need shelter.

Haney said the shelter was being set up on Wednesday and should be ready for use by Thursday when the weather is expected to come in.

“Just like what other Emergency Management agencies have said, if you don’t have to go outside don’t,” Haney said. “This is going to be set up as an ‘if-you-need-it’ basis. Like your power goes out, you’ll have a place to get a cup of hot coffee, maybe some soup and hopefully wait out the weather safely.”
