Voters in Putnam County’s former Boma voting precinct need to make sure they know where they are supposed to vote heading into Thursday’s election.
Putnam Election Administrator Michele Honeycutt said the area was split earlier in the year so the western half became part of the Buffalo Valley precinct while the eastern half goes to Upperman High School to vote. Honeycutt said if anyone is unsure where they are assigned they should call the election commission’s office before going to vote.
“You have to vote at the precinct you’re assigned to,” Honeycutt said. “It’s all by address so, you know, if they went to the wrong place they’re not going to find them on the poll pads there, so they’re going to call our office and we’re going to tell them the correct place. So the best thing for the voter is to call us first, that way you’re not going to two places that day.”
Honeycutt said the Boma precinct was closed and those voters were originally all sent to Upperman High School, but some locals around the Buffalo Valley area complained that it was too far to have to drive.
“So then the commission met again with some of the input from the people that did want to put input here,” Honeycutt said. “We had a meeting and it was open to the public. We did not have a lot of people attend, but then they changed (it).”
Honeycutt said those in the Buffalo Valley precinct will need to go to the Buffalo Valley Community Center to vote. Voting locations will be open from 9:00am to 7:00pm.
Honeycutt said anyone in line by 7:00pm will get to vote.
“A local election is very important,” Honeycutt said. “All your local decisions are made, you know, all the county commission, some of the cities. Some of the state representatives are on the ballot this time.”
