Putnam County Schools will appoint a committee to name the new Pre-K Center set to be housed in the old Park View School facility.
Director of Schools Corby King said he would like the committee to include parents heavily involved in the Pre-K program. King said the committee will take a similar approach that was used to name the new Park View.
“We did a survey that we sent out and posted on our social media sites,” King said. “And advertised through the media outlets and get some feedback from it. The committee will take that narrow the names and choose from there.”
King said he wants the community to decide the new name to be community-driven.
“It’s a community school and so we try not to guide that process too heavily,” King said. “Or at least the ones I’ve been a part of. Really the only one I guess is Park View or Prescott, I remember when we did that or when we moved Upperman Middle and named Cornerstone and Baxter Primary, but we leaned on the community to choose those.”
King said the school board does not have a timeline for when the new name will be announced.
“It will probably take six to eight weeks by the time you have the meeting and get a survey built and send that out and come back,” King said. “So a couple of board meetings out before we actually have a name to come back and recommend to the board.”
King said in the past the board has chosen the names the committee has recommended. King said hopefully the community will come it with a great name for the Pre-K center.
