The Putnam County Industrial Development Board may consider a PILOT proposal for the proposed VA clinic expected to be built in Putnam County.
Several pieces of land, including a portion of the Putnam County Fairgrounds at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Veterans Drive, are being considered for the facility. Multiple developers are competing to win the project at the federal level from the Veterans Administration.
Chairman Bob Bell told the board Friday a PILOT incentive would likely be considered when more of the details are decided. Exact details must still be worked out. Such a program is put in place to restructure the tax burden for a company or organization looking to bring jobs and development to a community. The agreements are generally multi-year agreements.
The board met in Executive Session Friday to discuss more details of the proposed VA project. Putnam County Attorney Jeffery Jones said that it would likely be several months before the VA made a decision on the proposed Cookeville facility.
Jones said the facility is expected to include some 60 beds and be a major upgrade from the facility that currently exists in the county.
