Woodcliff Road Will Remain Closed To At Least Friday

Putnam County’s Woodcliff Road will stay closed for the remainder of Thursday.

As of 2:30 p.m., the street is clear of all debris and snow, but that is not expected to stay true. Highway Superintendent Randy Jones said he anticipates more trees to fall on the roadway over the night.

“There is so much ice on the trees over there,” Jones said. “We are cleaning it up, and trees are falling by the time we get it cleaned up to when we go about a half a mile. There are trees following behind us.”

Jones said the added fog has also made visibility difficult for the area. Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation successful got power lines up on that road Wednesday, but icy trees continue to snap and disrupt service.

“I’ve had a crew up there all day long today trying to get it cleaned back up,” Jones said. “We have got it cleaned up and opened, but we are afraid to open it tonight.”

The area is thick with large trees, so the main concern is one falling on a passing vehicle, Jones said. Crews have been working on Woodcliff Road since Tuesday.
