Obituaries For Thursday, May 7

Mrs. Vivian Barnes, age 92 of Cookeville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 6th at 2:26 p.m. at her residence. Arrangements for Mrs. Barnes are incomplete.

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Selby, age 82 of Sparta, passed away Sunday. She was born January 9, 1938 in Flatwoods, Kentucky. She attended the public schools of Greenup County and was a graduate of Greenup High School. Dorothy and her husband James moved to Sparta, TN in 1973 to own and operate Al-Mar Market in the Cassville community for several years. In 1978, Dorothy joined the team at Citizens Bank in Sparta where she worked for over 25 years. After retiring from the bank, Dorothy worked with her family at Buds and Blooms Greenhouse in the Cassville community where she was able to work in her passion of growing flowers. Mrs. Selby was an active member of Gentry’s Chapel Church in Cookeville, TN. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Sunday, May 3rd, 2020 at Life Care Center in Sparta, TN. She was preceded in death by her Husband, James A. Selby, mother, Charlene Colegrove Wellman, and father, Gerald Colegrove. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Allen (Vonda) Selby of Sparta, TN, Marty (Rose) Selby of Mt. Juliet, TN; four grandchildren: Trey, T.J, Sutton, and Jordan Selby; brother, Gene (Carolyn) Colegrove of Claxton, TN; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Due to Covid-19 measures, the family will have a private graveside ceremony at Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville Community.

Family graveside services and interment for Anita Wert Wall Moore, age 96 of Cordova, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Friday May 8, 2020 at Algood Cemetery in Algood, Tennessee, with Rev. Rob Wheeler officiating. Moore died May 5, 2020, surrounded by family at her home in Cordova, TN from complications following a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. David Franklin Moore; her brothers Wilkes Hammock Wall, Jr. and Dr. James Thomas Wall; and her parents Neta Ozenia Williams Wall and Wilkes Hammock Wall, Sr. Anita grew up in Cookeville, Tennessee, thriving in spite of the Great Depression and World War II. She earned a business administration degree from Tennessee Tech University. After her husband’s medical training was completed, they lived in Memphis for the remainder of their lives. Anita worked for a period of time at Goldsmith’s and at Memphis State University’s Advisory Center. She was an active member of Mullins United Methodist Church for nearly 68 years, longer than any other current member. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and helped with the youth. Her faith and her church family were of great value and a blessing to her. She was a 4 gallon blood donor—a tiny lady with a huge heart! Anita loved and cherished her family and friends and was known not only as Anita but as Sister, Mother, Mom, Aunt Nita, Grandmother and Gigi. She made sure that her children kept up with each other and their families. She was the hub – the central station – for all things related to the family. She enthusiastically supported all of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. People were important to her and she loved knowing them. She was always very appreciative of every kindness and saved every card, note, letter and email sent to her.The family has requested that in lieu of flowers any memorials be sent to Mullins United Methodist Church Music Program Fund, 4 No. Mendenhall Road, Memphis 38117, or BrightFocus Foundation (macular degeneration research) at www.brightfocus.org.

Graveside service and interment for Donnie Neal Lindsey, 57, of Sparta, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 11 am in Cookeville City Cemetery with Bro. Jason Graham officiating. Mr. Lindsey died Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born December 4, 1962 in Putnam County, to Thurman Lindsey of Cookeville and the late Ila Franklin Lindsey. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, April Lindsey. He was a mechanic. Donnie is survived by his father, Thurman Lindsey; a daughter, Melanie Lindsey; four brothers, Danny (Kim) Lindsey of Algood, Ron (Soc) Geesling of Montana, Ronnie Lindsey and Bruce Geesling both of Cookeville; five sisters, Kathy Ann Johnson and Patricia (Raymond) Rodgers of Cookeville, Pam Alexander of Algood, Rita Dobbins and Barbara Croker of North Carolina.

Graveside funeral services and interment for Mrs. Judy Lynn Flatt, age 63, of Bloomington Springs, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday May 9 at Double Springs Cemetery. Honors provided by the TN Nursing Honor Guard. Randy Bybee, Mark Loftis, and John Nichols will officiate. She passed away Tuesday evening May 5, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born June 4, 1956 in Detroit, MI to Joan Loftis Dyer of Cookeville, and the late John Loftis. Judy was a lifelong nurse and caregiver. Her career spanned more than 38 years, serving others at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and the Outpatient Rehab Center. Even beyond her job and after retirement, she cared for people. She volunteered with Restoring Hope, Sycamore Elementary School, and the former Upper Cumberland Hospice. Judy was a member of Pippin Church of Christ. She was a selfless Christian example to her family and friends. Her family and especially her grandchildren were the center of her life. In addition to her mother, she is survived her husband of 43 years, Dale Flatt, whom she married June 10, 1976; son, Sean (Hillary) Flatt of Cookeville; daughters, Kasey (John) Nichols, Kayla (Dalton) Satterfield of Cookeville; grandchildren, Josiah, Silas, and John David Nichols, Zane and Pate Flatt; brothers, Mark (Tammy) Loftis, Alan (Angie) Loftis, all of Cookeville, and Steve (Pat) Loftis of Seneca, SC; mother-in-law, Jewel Flatt; sisters-in-law, Linda Loftis, Linda (Don) Randolph; step-sister-in-law, Martha Dyer, step-brother Russell (Janet) Dyer, special cousin, Sandy Jacobson, and special friend, Marsha Stockton. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mike Loftis; father-in-law, Aaron Clifford Flatt; step-father, Paul Dyer; and step-brother, Bob Dyer. Graveside services for Ruby Janie Robbins, 76 of Cookeville, will be in Sand Springs Cemetery Monterey, TN. at 2:00 PM on Saturday May 9, 2020 with Brother Mike Gillock officiating. She passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Born Wednesday, October 20, 1943 in Gainesboro, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Buhl and the late Ida Rector Buhl. Janie was a very loving mother to her children, grand children and those that she called hers. She never turned anyone away that needed help and loved everyone. She is survived by: 3 Daughters: Kim Robbins, Andrea (David) Burlison, Kristie Bender; Special Daughter: Sherry Burlison; Grand Children: Elizabeth (Zach) McHenry, Justin (Mary Kate) Burlison, Christian (Shawn) Walker, Kali Miller, Joseph Carter, Zander Carter, Brayden Price, Arianna Sliger, William Sliger, Justin (Misti ) Brown, Alix Hughes, Brittany (Austin) Priess, Casey (Alyssa) Westbrook; Great Grand Children: Brylee, Londyn, Emerie, Neyland, Titan, Jace, Paisley, A’Miracle and soon to be Micah David. Janie is also survived by several nieces and nephews and friends. Janie is preceded in death by her parents her husband Harold Robbins, sister Lula Moore Jackson, brother Dallas Claude Buhl and son-in-law Jason Bender.

Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Joyce Drake will be be at 2 p.m. Sunday May 10 at Smyrna Cemetery. Mrs. Drake passed away Tuesday evening May 5, 2020 at Bethesda Health Care Center.
