Van Buren Committee To Work On Spending Plan For Water, Sewer

Van Buren County will have some $2.8 million to spend on water and sewer projects through TDEC’s American Rescue Plan funding.

But how will the county prioritize who will benefit from the money? Mayor Greg Wilson said four commissioners have been assigned to a committee that will work with utility districts to form a recommendation.

“Rehab of water systems, rehab of the sewer system and we can also look at water line extension and sewer line extension and we have several places in our county that’s some what populated that does not have water,” Wilson said.

Wilson said extending water to the Denny Bend area and the Rocky River Mountain community could be a possibilities. Wilson said he has contacted the three utility districts in the county to schedule the first committee meeting.

“What we would be looking for then is what is your biggest need,” Wilson said. “And what can Warren County Utility District provide water to Rocky River Mountain? Can the city of Spencer provide water to Denny Bend? If not, what can we do to get there?”

The Spencer Water Department serves about 70 percent of the county. Wilson said using some the funding for that utility district would be heavily looked at.

As for the Fall Creek Falls Utility District, Wilson said it does not have a large pocket of residents without water. Wilson said rehab projects to lines would be considered instead.
