UC Regional Airport Averitt/JetRight Hangar Construction Underway

A new private hangar under construction at the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport could help free up more hangar space.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said the Averitt/JetRight hangar will serve as the middle ground between its Nashville and Knoxville locations.

“They actually have an aircraft based here now, and they’re just going to be able to move it into their private hangar and free up some of our community hangar space for other aircraft,” Selby said. “So it does expand capacity, even if it does it indirectly.”

Selby said the project has been underway for about two years. After just three months of construction, the ramp has been extended and asphalt has been laid. Construction is projected to be complete by the end of this year.

Selby said the airport’s relationship works well as a public/private partnership. He said Averitt is building the hangar without using local taxpayer dollars, and the airport is able to help Averitt better conduct its business. In addition, having more business from Averitt also helps increase the airport’s revenue.

“Jet aircraft, which as we know that’s one of our big revenue sources because of the amount of fuel, the profit off the fuel is a lot higher than a lot of other things,” Selby said. “So we’re excited to have them here.”
