State Closes Consent Order On Monterey Sewage

The state has closed a consent order against the City of Monterey for past sewage overflow issues.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Water Resources ordered no additional sewer taps and other measures after problems surfaced in 2013. In a letter from Compliance Manager Jessica Murphy, the state approved of the city’s efforts to rehab its sewer system.

“The Division recognizes the significant achievements of the town,” Murphy said in the letter. “We appreciate your commitment to clean and safe water.”

The state said the city had completed all the projects ordered and noted Monterey’s plans to build a new Waste Water Treatment Plant.
