Putnam School Supervisors Use Breaks To Begin Preparation For Future

Putnam County School Supervisors and Principals used the winter break to catch up and prepare for a new semester.

Director of Schools Corby King said the fast pace of operations while school is in session makes it challenging to take care of paperwork. He said the downtime gives supervisors the chance to tie up loose ends and begin planning projects for semesters to come.

“We spend a lot of time over the winter break looking at what we’ve accomplished so far, you know we have the new strategic plan, what we’ve accomplished in the first semester, what do we need to do the second semester,” King said. “And then what do we need to have in front of the school board at that work session to make sure that we keep implementing the plan the way that they intend.”

King said the break gave him a chance to sit down with Deputy Director Tim Martin and talk through work-session items that will be presented to the board. He said it was nice to have an informal setting, where big decisions were not being made, to work through ideas. The board will tackle some of these issues at its next work session on January 27.

“Breaks give us a chance to just breathe and look at, okay what have we not checked off the list yet that has to be turned in, submitted, we do those type things,” King said. “But it’s also a lot of planning. Getting ready for the next semester.”

King said work has already begun to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year. He said with five months left in the current year, he, the supervisors, the principals, and the school board want to smooth over ideas to get them in place in time for next August.

“We’re not making decisions, but we’re just talking about future projects, future directions, things that we want to do or that the board wants to see in keeping our school system moving forward,” King said.
