Putnam School Board Members Feel “Energized” After State Conference

Putnam County School Board has returned from the annual Tennessee School Board Association Conference.

The conference was the first for new board members Kerry Ledbetter and Jill Ramsey. Ramsey said her experience included learning about the legislative side of school boards and getting to work more closely with her fellow board members.

“I’ve been everything in the school system from teacher to administrator to supervisor, that’s way different than being a school board member,” Ramsey said. “Because it actually is setting policy for the schools. And I think knowing directly how that affects the schools is kind of a unique perspective for me.”

Ramsey said the school board members left the conference feeling energized and motivated. She said the conference was a good reminder of how hard the school board works for the students and families in Putnam County. Ramsey said she’s ready to take what she learned and apply it to the work she’ll continue to do with her fellow board members.

“The keynote speaker, Dr. Rick Rigsby, said, ‘ leadership is influence – expand your influence,’ own your mistakes and have a growth mindset,” Ramsey said. “We can all benefit from this. I really enjoyed the time with fellow board members. We are blessed to have good, solid school board members in Putnam County. I am blessed to be a part of this group.”
