Putnam Election Commission Counts Nearly 12,000 Voters

The Putnam County Election Commission reported a 26 percent voter turnout for the August 6 election.

That’s an increase of 14 percent over August 2016. Election Commission Director Michele Honeycutt said although this was a great voter turnout, she’s unsure why there was an August voter uptick.

“I don’t know if it was people were more interested or what,” Honeycutt said. “Maybe some of the races were more heated, or maybe just the media getting out there talking about the absentee and voting in person and all that.”

Honeycutt said for the August 2016 election, Putnam County had a 12 percent voter turnout. 11,707 total votes were cast which includes 1,226 absentee, 5,143 early votes, and 5,338 on election day.
