Putnam BOE And Commission To Meet In Joint Session Monday

The Putnam County School Board will meet in joint session with the County Commission Monday night.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Cookeville Higher Education Campus. School Board Chair Lynn McHenry said it will serve as an informative session around student enrollment and future school projects.

“We’re going to talk about the Park View School that we moved forward with it and give them a little information about what it would take if we added the 5-8 now and how long that’s going to be,” McHenry said. “We would like to do that and share the plans for the future for some of the schools that we might need.”

McHenry said with county commission as the system’s funding body, he wants to make sure it stays updated on future spending. McHenry said he hopes the commission will be able to help with the remainder of the Park View School.

“We’re passed the budget cycle, so it’s not anything that’s going to happen right away, but at the same time, this is what we are planning and we hope the commission will help us with that going through this next year. It is expected we will have a lot of questions from them.”

Several school board members during a special called meeting last month emphasized a need for the joint meeting. That meeting resulted in the Park View School project downsizing from a K-8 school to K-4.

“We’re really not expecting anything in return from them at this time, but we’re hoping to be able to at least inform them,” McHenry said.
