Two Putnam County inmates face additional charges following an attempted escape Wednesday.
Authorities found 36-year-old James Martin and 36-year-old Shawn Gibson outside of their assigned confinement area without permission or order from the Correctional Officer.
Arrest warrants indicate the Correctional Officer heard noises coming from the ceiling of the second-floor during a security walk. Jail personnel found Martin and Gibson exiting an access panel in the ceiling in the Medium Pod #2.
Personnel later discovered that the lock to the access panel had been broken.
Authorities placed an additional $10,000 onto Martin and Gibson’s existing bonds.
The attempted escape is the second incident this week in which Putnam County inmates tried to flee the facility. Four female inmates were given additional escape and vandalism charges after they tried to escape through the ceiling of the jail Tuesday.
