Putnam Inmates Charged For Attempting Escape

Four Putnam County inmates face charges for attempting to escape from jail Tuesday.

31-year-old Virginia Dawn Johnson, 41-year-old Mindy Lynn Pope, 27-year-old Rachel Helen Horner, and 30-year-old Mary Elizabeth Dunn each face a single count of escape.

According to arrest warrants, correctional officers located the four inmates inside the first level ceiling area of the jail. Officers determined that the inmates had entered the ceiling tiles and proceeded toward the kitchen area of the jail.

The warrant said the inmates used a razor blade and small saw blade during their escape.

All four inmates face additional charges of implementation of escape and vandalism.

Jail officials said the entry and movements of the inmates caused damage to the tiles and possibly the fire suppression system. The estimated amount of damage is in excess of $1,000.
