Monterey will explore the possibility of extending its walking trail to Woodcliff Road.
Town grant writer Dawn Kupferer said she recently had an engineer draw up some plans for the project.
“We have got some numbers together and we are going to start looking for some funding for it,” Kupferer said. “Potentially the same funding we did for the last section. It’s section P of the original 2008 rail trail that was supposed to go to Cookeville.”
Monterey used a State Department of Health grant to extend the trail to Oak Street earlier this year. Kupferer said the extension to Woodcliff Road would cost an estimated $100,000.
“It’s for 1,000 linear feet of trail and 475 feet of sidewalk to connect West Commercial to Woodcliff,” Kupferer said.
Kupferer informed the board of mayor and aldermen about her plans during Monday night’s meeting.
