Man Captured After 4-County Police Chase Tuesday

A police chase through Putnam, Van Buren, Warren and White Counties Tuesday led to a 30-year old man being charged with first-degree murder.

30-year-old Joshua Brennon Wilson allegedly tried to strike Warren County Sheriffs Department Captain Jody Cavanaugh as Cavanaugh worked to deploy stop sticks along the Highway 70 Bypass. Cavanaugh was not injured.

Wilson was stopped in Warren County by sheriff’s deputies. He was pulling a U-Haul trailer and the lights were not walking. During the stop, Wilson provided someone else’s driver’s license. According to reports, the deputy approached the vehicle to ask Wilson about the identification and Wilson fled the scene.

Deputies followed Wilson into White and Van Buren Counties as he weaved into oncoming traffic to avoid spike strips. The chase ended along Highway 136 in Putnam County.

Wilson faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and criminal impersonation. He faces other charges in White and Sullivan Counties.
