Livingston to Hear Concerns on Junk Vehicle Code

The Livingston Board of Aldermen and Mayor will allow public comments about the Property Maintenance Codes on Abandoned Vehicles Monday.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said he expects both opposition and support from the community.

The Livingston Board of Aldermen and Mayor will discuss the Abandoned Vehicles Property Maintenance Code on Monday.

“Well, we just have the second hearing on the board on the property maintenance code. I think there have been a few changes to it,” Hayes said. “You know the public certainly has a right to speak on their behalf and talk about the property maintenance code. The board has the right to approve it or not approve it.”

Hayes said he does not know the extent of the changes to the code.

The ordinance regards junk motor vehicles without proper registration on private or public property. The abandoned cars must be on the property for at least 72 hours before the city can enforce the ordinance.

Once notified by the city, the owner must respond by removing the vehicle or scheduling a hearing within 10-days.

Second reading of the ordinance will take place during the meeting on Monday, January 7th.

Hayes said the meeting will also cover downtown revitalization and the dedication of a new park.
