T-DOT crews have completed repairs to Livingston Highway north of Monterey after a rockslide.
T-DOT Community Relations Officer Rae Anne Bradley said the slide occurred due to terrain beneath the road failing after a long period of settling. She said T-DOT brought in an outside firm to complete the repairs using a soil nail wall.
“That uses steel anchor nails driven into the hillside connected to a reinforced concrete wall to stabilize the area,” Bradley said. “So the repair area in total, I think, was about 90 feet in length.”
Bradley said the slide was confined to the northbound lane only. She said a temporary traffic signal was put in place to redirect northbound travelers.
“The slide didn’t affect the whole roadway, requiring it to be closed,” Bradley said. “So the fact that we were able to keep a lane open while we were doing repairs is significant so the flow of traffic could continue through the area.”
She said the total repair cost some $116,000. Geostabalizastion International completed the work.
“This section of road had been slowly settling for quite some time, but we saw much more significant movement over the past couple of months prior to the repairs we made,” Bradley said.
