Jackson 911 Looking For More Dispatchers

Jackson County’s 911 is looking to hire new dispatchers.

Jackson 911 PIO Derek Woolbright said that their county is currently has a critical need for more personnel. He said that dispatchers make the calls for all emergency departments in the county and they’re being spread thin.

“I would say they need the ability to multi-task, they need the ability to be firm but compassionate and understand the needs of the folks who call,” Woolbright said. “We’re just looking for a group of folks who are motivated, and who want to learn the job and who want to help people.”

Woolbright said that experience is ideal, but not necessary. He said that dispatchers will be trained in-house. The department will offer insurance, retirement, paid time off, and holiday pay.

Woolbright said that while the work can be stressful, it’s also very rewarding.

“It’s a fulfilling a job in the sense that you’re not just pigeon-holed into one side of emergency service,” Woolbright said. “In our 911 Center in Jackson County, we dispatch for all of our public safety agencies. So, anyone who has a fire, you’re dealing with them, anyone who has a law enforcement emergency, a medical emergency, you’re dealing with all different aspects of it. So you’re literally involved in helping everyone in Jackson County who needs help.”

Woolbright said those interested can stop by the 911 Center on North Murray Street in Gainesboro and pick up an application.
