Mary Beth Elrod has been hired as Cookeville’s New Public Works Director after Blake Mayor stepped down after two years as director.
Elrod has been with Cookeville Public Works since May 2022. In her role as an engineer, she was responsible for designing and reviewing expansion and improvement projects. She graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree in civil and environmental engineering and has 13 years of professional experience.
City Manager James Mills said he appreciates Mayo’s six years with the Public Works department and his 22 months as director. He said Public Works Director is one of the most demanding jobs in the city.
Mills said he has the utmost confidence in Elrod and he feels fortunate to have had someone working in the department with the qualities and capabilities needed in a new director.
Elrod said she is eager to continue to develop and grow each division of the Public Works Department.
