Crossville Receives Dog Park Grant for K-9 Cain Memorial Dog Park

The City of Crossville recently received a 25 thousand dollar dog park grant for the K-9 Cain Memorial Dog Park.

Greg Wood is Crossville City Manager.

“The Boyd Foundation, which started PetSafe and he invented the invisible fence and some of the things like that for dogs,” Wood said. “And they have taken some of those profits and then putting them back into the community in the form of grants. This particular grant that we won is for the K-9 Cain Dog Park, which is already an established dog park but it is just very basic.”

The Boyd Foundation donated over one million dollars in dog park grants across Tennessee this year.

The 25 thousand dollar grant will go towards various updates in the dog park, Wood said.

“Right now we don’t have any agility equipment within the park. And we are going to get some agility equipment, some benches, make it more comfortable for dog owners,” Wood said. “We are also going to upgrade our water fountain to a more doggy friendly water fountain that is specifically designed for them.”

Wood said the grant helps immortalize K-9 Cain’s contribution to the community.

“This one is near and dear to my heart because it memorializes a K-9 officer that was killed on duty last August,” Wood said. “And I just think it is very fitting and appropriate to honor that fallen officer with this grant.”

After stealing a semi-truck, Dustin Lee Dixon led authorities on a chase through the woods where Dixon stabbed K-9 Cain.

Crossville named the dog park in memory of K-9 Cain.
