The number of positive COVID-19 cases at Cookeville Regional Medical Center increased to 24 Tuesday.
A seventh COVID death reported as well. The elderly patient had underlying health conditions. Seven patients currently in ICU according to CRMC Public Relations Director Melahn Finley. All seven are stable.
Meantime, State Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said hospitals statewide are beginning to feel strain from the COVID increases. However, Piercey said there’s no shortage of beds.
In fact, Piercey said today a bad flu season has affected capacity much more than COVID has so far.
Piercey said the State Hospitals Association has asked state officials to allow them to manage the capacity issues because they know how to do so best.
Piercey said hospitals in Memphis and Nashville are feeling the biggest pinch.
