Clay County Commissioners got their first look of the county’s new fiscal year budget Monday.
During the budget meeting, Finance Clerk Donna Hamilton reviewed the numbers of the general fund as well as the solid waste department and jail maintenance. Hamilton said most budgets stayed the same with regular increases.
“We got through the majority of our budgets,” Hamilton said. “We have a few that will come back on June 21st. We had a few increases, which was normal which is our phone bill and maintenance agreements.”
Hamilton said a 1.5 percent raise for employees will also be included for each department. Hamilton said the highway department, school budget and revenue estimates still need to be discussed and will be reviewed later.
“Anything to do with streets is Highway department. That doesn’t fall under county general,” Hamilton said. “It does go into the county budget. I have to submit the county budget as well as the school’s and the highway’s. They give that to us and the county commission has to approve it.”
Hamilton said a total price tag for the county’s budget will be figured once all parts are submitted. Hamilton said the county’s goal is to have the budget passed in mid-August.
“I will have to close the books at the beginning of July before I will have revenue for them,” Hamilton said. “They will get an official budget before it is ran in the paper. Then, they will do a preliminary on that and approve that part for me to put it in the paper.”
The county’s drug fund and debt services were also discussed. Hamilton said the county will have a zero for the line of debt services.
