Police Chief Danny Holmes said Bean responded to a call about a man begging for money at the Speedway around 1:00 am this morning.

Bean reportedly started to question the man at the gas pumps.

After running the license plate of the man’s vehicle, Bean found out it is a stolen vehicle from Pennsylvania, Holmes said.

The man, identified as David Smith, attempted to evade arrest. At that time, Bean jumped partially into the stolen vehicle.

Holmes said Smith drug Bean some 200 feet and hit a curb.

From there, Bean was able to subdue Smith.

Holmes said Bean went to the hospital after the altercation. Bean did not suffer any critical injuries.

Bean will return to duty on Wednesday.
