Algood Council Picks Design Firms for Proposed Park

The Algood City Council will move to negotiate a price with Clinton Engineering for the proposed Algood Park project.

The council chose Clinton Engineering as the first choice out of three other design firms Tuesday. Councilman Luke Hill said Clinton Engineering was the only local firm to apply.

“If we can keep the local, I think that is a plus for us and for this project,” Hill said. “So, I think that is a big plus for Clinton Engineering. But all three, I think have the capabilities of providing good service.”

City Manager Keith Morrison said each firm applied through a Request for Qualification.

“We asked for specialized experience or technical expertise in the firm, a past record of performance of contracts with the community and other clients,” Morrison said. “A capability for the firm to perform the work within the time limitations, familiarity with the type of problems applicable to the project, familiarity with local conditions, and familiarity with state routes. ”

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said she wants the community to give the firm feedback for the duration of the project.

“I think it is important that all of them proposed that they would be holding regular meetings with all of us,” Fowler said. “So we could see the master plan they have come up with. We want our input as to what we would like to see as a community.”

The City of Algood will pay for the new park through a Healthy Built Environment Grant worth $50,000.

Algood designated Kimley-Horn out of Nashville as the second choice for the project. If pricing negotiations fall through with Clinton, Algood will move to negotiations with Kimley-Horn.
