Putnam County will open up COVID vaccinations to anyone age 16 and above starting Wednesday.
Mayor Randy Porter said the county wants to open up vaccinations to everyone who wants to take it after moving quickly through the 55 and up age group and the 2a-b phase. Porter said the county is receiving larger amounts of the vaccine and want to vaccinate anyone interested in taking it.
The Putnam County Health Department vaccine drive-thru will have special hours this week to try and meet everyone’s scheduling needs:
Wednesday- 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Thursday- 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Friday- 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Saturday- 9:00 AM until noon
Residents can start registering now, either online at putnamcountytn.com/vaccine or by phone at 931-646-4636. The vaccine is free of charge and people do not have to leave their vehicle.
The vaccine drive-thru is located at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. The vaccine hotline number is available Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM.
Porter said that Putnam County continues to be one of the top Tennessee counties for vaccinations. Porter said that so far, 30,300 shots have been given, with approximately 19,000 first doses and 11,300 second doses.
He said over 84 percent of the county’s most vulnerable 70 and above age group have been vaccinated. However, Porter asked residents to remember that despite vaccinations increasing, the virus is still here and people who are not vaccinated will get sick.
