7 Injured Including 4 Kids In I-40 Accident

An overnight accident along Interstate 40 in Crossville left seven people injured, one critically.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the one-vehicle accident happened around 2:30am near mile marker 320. A vehicle driven by 48-year-old Dorthy Clark of Clinton ran across the left rumble strips. Clark over corrected and left the right side of the roadway. Clark’s vehicle went down an embankment and overturned on its top.

Clark told the investigating officer she had looked down at the map on her phone.

Among the injuries, a 67-year-old passenger was airlifted to UT Knoxville with critical injuries. Another Knoxville passenger was also transported to UT Knoxville. Four children in the car also suffered injuries, one six-year-old girl was taken to UT Knoxville.

Three of the four children were not wearing child restraints.

Clark was transported and released from Cumberland Medical Center. She faces charges of simple possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and violation of Child Restraint laws.
