York Institute will face off against Polk County for the second time in three weeks Friday night and Head Coach Derwin Wright said he hopes his team will perform better.
On October 31, these two teams faced off in the 2-2A region championship, won by the Dragons 19-14. Wright said with the rematch being such a quick turnaround, he expects Polk County to reveal some new wrinkles.
“We’ve just got to watch and see what they’re doing and respond how they’re doing it and find the things that are open,” Wright said. “From a defensive standpoint, playing an offense two times that quick, now that’s more of a challenge than it is for the offensive coach, in my opinion.”
Wright said his players were far from satisfied with their week 11 performance against the Wildcats. He said the team has addressed and hopefully fixed those problems ahead of their round two match-up at home. Wright noted that playing at home this time around will be a factor.
“Well, I think anytime you’re playing at home, you’re not traveling,” Wright said. “It’s a long trip and that’s an advantage for you, you can stay in your typical home routine. You’ve got your home crowd there, so anytime you’re at home it definitely an advantage.”
The Dragons are avoiding a two and a half hour bus ride to with this round two match-up being at The Dragon Pit. Wright said he expects a large portion of Fentress County to be in the stands.
Kickoff set for 7pm.
