Work wrapping up this week on the renovations to Warren County Middle School, a project several years in the making.
Warren County Director Of Schools Grant Swallows said the facility built in the 1950s had long been overdue for upgrades. Specifically, the system addressed the school’s entryway and added new administrative space.
“The front of the building actually faces the bypass, but over the years, trees and things have grown up in front of that,” Swallows said. “So from the bypass you really can’t see that. So when you drive up to the building, you’re really driving up to the back of the building. I know that sounds confusing, but we felt like we needed to take care of that and so we added a small administrative complex on the front.”
The 6,000 square feet includes new office space as well as a new health facility. Swallows said additional work has been done in paving and cleanup around the school’s parking lot.
“Again giving that school an entrance that everybody can understand and put into their GPS and show up and say, ‘oh, here’s the front of the school,'” Swallows said.
Swallows said the system also received a temporary certificate of occupancy last week for the Centertown Elementary project. Swallows said the addition to that facility began in September and has moved quickly. Swallows said just some fencing and work surrounding the school remains.
