Work Begins to Install Traffic Lights at I-40, Highway 111

TDOT crews have begun work to install new traffic lights at the Interstate 40 and Highway 111 ramps in Cookeville.

TDOT Spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said crews will soon construct new turning lanes from the I-40 exit ramp onto 111.

“Right now what the contractor’s doing is putting in the conduit necessary for the signal,” Flynn said. “They’ll be working on the ramps in the next 2-3 weeks. They’ll be working on the ramp because they will be adding a separate right turn lane on the I-40 Westbound off-ramp to provide additional storage and prevent the possibility of traffic backing up on I-40.”

Flynn notes the traffic light poles are currently being fabricated and should be completed by this April.

Flynn advises drivers to be cautious when driving around the intersection as crews work to complete the project.

“Be aware that there will be work going on out there and just be patient,” Flynn said. “If it takes them a little extra time to get through, it shouldn’t take too much extra time. But just be aware that the contractor’s crews will be out there and just make sure that they are patient when they are driving through the work zone.”

Flynn said the project should be completed later this June.
