Site preparations began Tuesday for a new wastewater treatment plant in the town of Monterey.
Mayor JJ Reels said the state of the art facility will expand the number of sewer connections the system can handle.
“It’s going to be a great accomplishment for the town,” Reels said. “It allows us to start developing exit 300, which will greatly enhance our tax revenue coming in and provide more services.”
Reels said the current plant is outdated and has issues filtering. Reels said the some $11 million dollar facility located on Stewart Avenue near the VFW office.
“Today is a culmination of years and years of work,” Reels said. “A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into this probably over the past eight to 10 years, and it has finally came to the point that work has started.”
Reels said an official ground breaking with town officials and engineers will be scheduled sometime next week. Reels said the project estimated to be completed in two years. W & O Construction conducting the work.
