Wilson Reflects On Eight Year Tenure As Van Buren Mayor

Van Buren County Mayor Greg Wilson reflected on his eight-year tenure at his final full commission meeting in the role.

Wilson said the county had overcome many hardships during that time, including losing the old admin building to a 2015 fire and the pandemic. He said the county was able to get through it by working together.

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the eight years we’ve worked together,” Wilson said. “It’s been a good eight years, and the best thing about the eight years working with you is getting to know you even better than what I already did. I knew everybody here, but getting to know you more on a personal basis.”

Wilson said he is looking to focus on a smooth transition as David Sullivan takes over the helm as mayor. The county’s districts are also set to be led by several new commissioners.

New commissioners include Dusty Madewell in District 1 and Brickford Wall in District 3. District 2 will be represented by Michael Chandler and Terry Hodges. Tabitha Denney and Kenny Smith will lead District 4. Robert DeLong and former commissioner Michael Woodlee will serve in District 5.

“It’s not about me, or the commission, or David (Sullivan), it’s about Van Buren County,” Wilson said. “Because that’s who you’re going to be working for, that’s who we work for right now until the first. And those new commissioners, if you have any questions feel free to give me a call. Talk to your current commissioners that are in your district. ”

The new leadership is set to be sworn into office on September 1st.
