Contractors have begun the process of widening the Interstate 40 westbound off-ramp at Highway 111.
Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said the project will prevent drivers from turning right onto Highway 111 North.
“Unfortunately, this closure will be in place until June 1, so please just avoid the area and plan alternate routes,” Flynn said. “We’re sorry this is happening but it will be a lot improved when we get done.”
The work is part of a project to install traffic signals at the eastbound and westbound ramps of Highway 111 and Interstate 40 in Cookeville.
Flynn said drivers can expect long delays when traveling through the area as left turn movement will be the only one allowed.
“Just be aware that our contractors and TDOT workers are not out to make your life difficult,” Flynn said. “They’re out there to do a very important job and to make our roads safer for everyone. Please be considerate of them and please obey the signs.”
Flynn said the $920,000 project is still on schedule to be completed in June.
