White County High School Senior Allie Heady has published her first book titled, Cole Magnus.
It is the first book of a children’s series called “We Met in the Fog,” written under Heady’s pseudonym Grace Edgewood. Heady said the book follows Cole and his sister Lyla through a world of magic and trouble.
“I’ve always loved the idea of creating my own characters,” Heady said. “Something that nobody else in the world has ever thought of, and so, I started writing by picking up on my favorite characters and writing stories that nobody else had heard about them. Then, that kind of developed into taking my favorite characteristics from all of my favorite characters and developing my own stories.”
Heady said she started the series as a sophomore right when the COVID shutdown occurred. Heady said after completion of the series, she created her own cover art and decided to self-publish the first book.
“In 2020, I had no classes. I had no where to be, so I sat down and I started writing,” Heady said. “I had this idea of this character I wanted to develop to be a hopeful character and have family ties, family values.”
“After I finished the series in early 2021, my mother was like we need to get this published. It’s great,” Heady said. “We looked for all kinds of agents and publishers and emailed and called. Most of them would not take me, because I was a 16-year-old kid that never published a book before. So after a year of clearing, I decided Kindle Direct was my best option.”
Heady said to her, stories are the best way to show children that they can do whatever they want. Heady said she wants to continue that belief by attending college to become a future librarian.
