White County Schools Review 2025 Budget

The White County Board of Education began its preparations for the 2025 fiscal year budget cycle Thursday night.

The board reviewed financial reports for the current fiscal year and set a first meeting to begin the process. White County Schools Finance Director Chad Marcum said the 2025 budget is in a good spot as local taxes and revenues continue to show strength.

“Overall we are ahead of last as far as deficiency of revenues over expenditures by about $150,000 meaning if we keep on this track we should be in good shape as far as things stand now,” Marcum said.

Marcum said overall the expenditures for 2025 are where they expected them to be and are slightly in a better position compared to last year. White County Schools Board of Education Chairman Bob Young said he is glad to see the budget present great numbers well before the upcoming fiscal year begins.

“Good to see that the revenue is flowing in at the time that we need it most,” Young said.

Marcum said the school board will have to keep an eye on the budget as numbers can change.

“Our expenditures and our revenues don’t line up so they don’t come in at the same time and go out at the same time,” Marcum said. “You have to kind of watch it and see how it tracks according to last year and according to last year and the previous years we seem to be in pretty good shape.”

Marcum said the all other expenses portion of the budget did increase but was largely due to the county using funds from a grant. Marcum said those numbers were not reflected in last year’s budget but will be reflected in the first part of the 2025 fiscal year budget.
