White County Fair Wins 2019 State Championship

The White County Fair has received a 2019 divisional state championship award.

Fair president Mike Wilson said everyone involved with last year’s fair worked tirelessly to achieve this goal.

“Obviously we work toward that each year, and with that being a goal that we would win. And obviously we want to put on a good county fair and represent our community and have something for people to come in and enjoy. It’s great to get that recognition for our county,” Wilson said.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Tennessee Association of Fairs presented the award this month. Awards are given for how well fairs promote agriculture and their rural heritage.

White County’s Division A win is based on population size. Runner ups included Bledsoe, Decatur, and Smith Counties.

Wilson said it’s been several years since they have won this award.

“Well, of course, our volunteers is what makes the fairs happen and make it work,” Wilson said. “We have 27 board members and countless numbers of volunteers that work each year and year round. So that’s the backbone of our fairs is volunteers and the board members working countless hours to put that event on.”

The addition of storage units, restrooms, and a rodeo also contributed to the fair’s success.

Wilson said at least 20,000 people visited the fair last year.
