White County students will have a new athletics complex to use next month.
The $3.1 million construction project wraps up May 1st. Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the project provides new athletic fields for baseball, softball, and soccer.
“That’ll all be on our middle school campus and none of those teams have had their own home playing field until this point,” Dronebarger said. “We built them large enough to accommodate our high teams in case we want to have some tournaments. It’s going to be something that our community has sorely needed and will be proud of when it’s all finished.”
Dronebarger said the project also provides a new road to help eliminate traffic congestions at White County Middle School.
“If you’ve ever been to White County Middle School during the day time, traffic can be an issue,” Dronebarger said. “In theory, that traffic’s going to be pulled around the school to get it off the front driveway. It’s gonna make things a lot smoother for parents as they enter and exit the school.”
Lewis Group Architects and J. Cumby Construction have been conducting the project.
