White Co. School District Exploring Live Stream Options For School Board Meetings

White County Schools exploring options to start live streaming its monthly school board meetings.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the desire to have the meetings live-streamed has been a big want from the community. He said they are totally open to the idea, but when to execute it in the right way.

“We could throw up a phone and put it out there and Livestream but we wanted to look at other options to make sure we get the best quality product out there so people can hear and see what they need to see,” Dronebarger said. “So we’re talking with the technology folks at our district, we’ll talk to the board, whatever they want to do. If they want to throw an iPhone or an iPad out there we’ll do it.”

Dronebarger said they are trying to weigh options between being able to visit schools for meetings and having a permanent live stream set up.

Dronebarger said they had considered utilizing Warrior Media, but ultimately decided to look elsewhere. He said because it is a time-consuming program already, they did not want to ask more of that team.

“That’s someone’s family time and we already ask a lot of that program,” Dronebarger said. “And we’re trying to figure out how to expand the program and add personnel, but it takes a lot of students to run those things and right now it’s one person. So we thought it was unfair to ask that person to dedicate 12 more nights (…) That led to the discussion of having a dedicated spot at the central office.”

Community Member Jaime Winnett said her cellphone live stream had some 4,000 views at the last school board meeting.
